The Omlet Automatic Chicken Coop Door
Auto Door Features
The Omlet auto door has many features that really made it stand out for me. Some of the top features are the ability to be controlled via light sensor or timer, simple installation process that works for most existing coops, maintenance-free operation, enhanced coop security, and a integrated safety sensor.
Light Sensor and Timer Options
The Omlet auto door offers two operating options for setting the opening and closing times. You can choose the light sensing option, which adjusts based on the light conditions, or opt for the manual timer setting.
I personally use the timer option as I like to know the exact time it will open and close everyday. I have a camera down at my coop that I will check to make sure everyone went in when I know that it should be shutting.
** If you use the timer option, you will want to make sure that you account for this and adjust your time to open and close during daylight savings time **
Omlet Chicken Door Installation
I love that Omlet has two options for installing their auto door. You can either use it with their pre-built Omlet coops (their coops even can come in pink!) or you can fit it to most existing coop structures.
I have my chicken coop in a converted horse stall and I was able to attach the Omlet auto door to a metal stall door. Installation was easy and the battery/keypad fits nicely on the door.

Operation, Settings, and Security
Configuring the morning and evening timer is straightforward and intuitive, making it easy to set up. I found it helpful to watch a YouTube tutorial before getting started.
The thought only crossed my mind while I was traveling: what if the battery dies and the person watching my flock doesn’t notice because they’ve already fed them and left before it opens or they don’t notice it didn’t close them in? Thankfully, the screen displays the battery percentage, so that I can always check the level before leaving. That was such a relief to find that feature!
As for security, I haven’t encountered any issues with predators attempting to breach the coop. The size of the door appears too small for larger dogs to fit through, and my coop is situated within a fenced area, adding another layer of protection.
Integrated Safety Sensor
My #1 priority when I started researching automatic coop doors was safety. I had read a few reviews on other auto doors who said they had come out only to find their door has closed on their chicken! Because of these horror stories I continued looking for the best automatic chicken coop door that would have a safety sensor in it. I knew someone who loved their chickens had to have thought of adding this!
The Omlet auto door has a built-in sensor and is activated when it touches something in the way. I’ve tested it multiple times by putting my hand in the way and it stops, goes back to it’s open position, and then will try again to close.
For this reason alone it was enough for me to select this auto door compared to any other model without a safety feature. My flock trusts me to take care of them and ensuring their safety with any product I use for them is very important to me.
My Experience with the Omlet Auto Door
Reflecting on my experience with the Omlet chicken door after a year and a half of use, I can’t even imagine not having an automatic chicken door now. It’s such a relief knowing that my flock will be safely tucked away at the time I’ve set, giving me peace of mind whether I’m out with family or just enjoying some evening relaxation.
Sure, the idea of sleeping in while my chickens are let out in the morning sounded amazing at first. But I’ve realized, unless you’ve got an auto feeder, the morning opening feature might not make much of a difference. I still have to head out to feed the horses, barn cats, and the chickens anyway. But knowing that even if I’m running a tad behind schedule, they’re already out and about, happily pecking away at bugs, makes me happy they aren’t waiting on me to start their day.
So would I buy this again? 100% yes!
